Remembrance (Albert Hurwit)

One of inSIGHT’s most celebrated fundraising events showcased the music of Dr. Albert Hurwit, a physician turned composer. The Palm Beach Symphony performed his award-winning Symphony No. 1, “Remembrance”, captivating students, supporters, and the general public alike. Through masterful orchestration and deeply emotive sequences, Dr. Hurwit tells the story of his ancestors’ struggles and hopes for a new life in a better world, translating history and memory into the universal language of music.
Dr. Hurwit’s extraordinary journey—from limited formal musical training to composing a masterpiece recognized with first place in the 2009 American Composer Competition—was featured in Hartford Magazine in an article entitled “Music of the Soul”. The evening was not only a testament to his talent but also a moving reminder of how music can preserve memory, inspire reflection, and bring communities together.
