Shared Legacies

Dr. Shari Rogers, founder of Spill the Honey, was joined by special guests Brenda Lawrence, former U.S. Congresswoman, and Dr. Clarence B. Jones, former speechwriter and advisor to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., for an engaging program centered on Shared Legacies. The film, produced by Spill the Honey, spotlights the historic alliance between Black and Jewish communities during the Civil Rights era, celebrating their shared struggles for justice, equality, and human dignity.

Following the screening, a lively question-and-answer session allowed attendees to engage directly with the panelists, exploring the lessons of history and their relevance to today’s challenges. Participants reflected on ways to rebuild bridges between communities, discuss modern discrimination, and draw inspiration from past collaboration to take meaningful action in their own spheres.

Through film, discussion, and audience interaction, the program ignited new dialogue, fostered mutual understanding, and reinforced the importance of solidarity in confronting antisemitism, racism, and other forms of intolerance. By revisiting this powerful history and connecting it to present-day issues, the event empowered participants to carry forward a legacy of cooperation, empathy, and collective action.
