Student Programs
"How Was It Possible?"

How Was It Possible? A Holocaust Curriculum For and By Teachers™, developed by the Jewish Foundation for the Righteous (JFR), provides students with a comprehensive and meaningful study of the Holocaust. In Palm Beach County, this curriculum is being introduced through a pilot initiative supported by the Goldsmith family.
Many students have the opportunity to engage with a selection of lessons—typically 4–6 modules—gaining valuable insights into the history and lessons of the Holocaust. Students who complete the full set of modules and achieve a score of 80% or higher on the assessments are recognized as Goldsmith Student Scholars of the Holocaust.
Named in memory of the family of Mark Goldsmith, whose relatives experienced the full spectrum of Holocaust-era tragedy and heroism, the Goldsmith Scholars initiative encourages deep engagement with themes of resistance, rescue, and responsibility. Through both partial and full participation, the program challenges students to reflect on history—and on the choices that continue to define our humanity.
In its pilot year in 2024-2025, the impact of the program was felt across Palm Beach County. More than 300 attendees—representing 12 schools—came together at a standing-room-only event honoring Holocaust Survivors, dedicated educators, and the inaugural class of Goldsmith Scholars. Students sat beside Survivors and teachers, forging personal connections that transcend textbooks.
As one parent reflected, “My child and I left changed. The curriculum they learned brought history to life, and being part of this event made the values of kindness, acceptance, and respect feel deeply personal and lasting. We are grateful to inSIGHT Through Education.”
