Discover the incredible significance of “the power of one,” during a pivotal moment toward the end of WWII, when Master Sergeant Roddie Edmonds stood up for what was right.
The program includes visual testimony through a short film from those who bore witness to his bravery and a candid conversation with Chris.
"Footsteps of My Father" unveils a tale of exceptional courage exemplified by Master Sergeant Roddie Edmonds,
a deeply religious individual hailing from Tennessee. In a daring act during World War II,
Edmonds risked his own life to rescue 200 Jewish G.I.s held captive by the Germans.
This remarkable act of valor, which might have faded into obscurity, resurfaced through the discovery
of Edmonds' private diary by his son, Pastor Chris Edmonds—a Tennessee clergyman.
The narrative gains further resonance through a serendipitous encounter with one of
the surviving Jewish American P.O.W.s.
Motivated by a desire to trace his father's path, Pastor Chris Edmonds embarks on a journey to uncover the
harsh realities faced by captured Jewish American G.I.s. His quest extends to locating and connecting with the men
and their families whose lives Roddie Edmonds saved.
Roddie Edmonds, sadly, never fully grasped the immense impact of his courageous act before his passing.
Unbeknownst to him, he would later be recognized as the sole American soldier honored
by Yad Vashem as Righteous Among the Nations.
Remarkably, Roddie Edmonds chose to remain silent about his heroism, sharing his story with no one.
Now, through the revelation of his personal writings, penned in his own hand, the voice of this unsung
hero echoes through time, ensuring that the story of his extraordinary bravery is finally heard.
