ABOUT THE EVENT:

Emmy Award-Winning Producer PAULA APSELL presents film segments of RESISTANCE: They Fought Back, her riveting new documentary followed by a discussion.

RESISTANCE: They Fought Back is focused on the resistance of Jews to the Nazi regime, this feature documentary is designed to illuminate an aspect of the conventional Holocaust story that may be known to scholars but not to most ordinary people. Their goal is nothing less than a corrective to the dominant narrative of the Holocaust, one in which Jewish victims went passively to their deaths  "like sheep to the slaughter".

Paula Apsell is a Senior Executive Producer Emerita of PBS’s Nova, and is widely considered among the most influential journalists in science, engineering and science communications in the United States and across the globe.

Paula Apsell estimates she worked on 700 films over her 40 years with the iconic science documentary series, NOVA, before her retirement in 2019. For 35 of those years, she was NOVA’s executive producer, supervising high-impact documentaries on topics such as smallpox eradication, artificial intelligence, and genetic engineering.

During Paula Apsell’s tenure, NOVA won every major broadcasting award, most many times over, including the Emmy; the Peabody; the DuPont-Columbia University Gold and Silver Batons; and an Academy Award nomination for Special Effects. She has been recognized with numerous individual awards for her work, including the 2018 Lifetime Achievement Emmy of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
